Between golden sand and crystal clear sea
Cala Bukuto, also known as Cala Buguto, is a picturesque cove located within the Bay of Cornino, in the territory of Custonaci. It is the largest sandy stretch of coast in the area, featuring a beach with grey-gold grains kissed by an incredibly blue sea.
This cove is renowned for its crystal-clear waters and the stunning landscape surrounding it, making it an ideal destination both for sea lovers and for those looking for comfortable and accessible beaches.

A day at the beach in Cala Bukuto is the perfect way to start exploring the sea of Custonaci, allowing you to better plan your movements and beach stay. The presence of numerous equipped beach clubs along the coast ensures beachgoers have adequate comfort and services, making for relaxing seaside days. It is the ideal spot if you wish to experience the sea of Custonaci with your family, children, or with people who have special accessibility needs, thanks to the practicality of the sea access and the reassuring transparency of the waters along this stretch of coast. Moreover, throughout the promenade that runs alongside the cove, you can park your car conveniently without being too far from the beach. Cala Bukuto is also very close to the centre of Cornino, so after your beach day or at lunchtime, you can easily reach the town’s main square to enjoy a delicious Sicilian seafood dish.
Beyond being an ideal holiday location, Cala Bukuto’s beach is also central to a special moment for the Custonaci community. A particularly significant event takes place right on the beach: the historical reenactment of the arrival of the painting of the Madonna of Custonaci. According to Tradition, the painting, originally from Alexandria, Egypt, was given to the town in the 1400s by a French ship as a token of gratitude to the local community and the Virgin for having landed safely at the cove during a storm. This event, which marks the origin of Marian devotion in the area, is commemorated every year on the last Monday of August and recreates the traditional arrival of the Marian icon at Cala Bukuto aboard a sailing vessel. Following the arrival of the painting, a solemn torchlight procession of the faithful accompanies the statue of the Virgin in a procession to the Sanctuary of Custonaci, allowing both the local community and visitors to experience a unique spiritual and cultural tradition rooted in ancient history.
